Environmental Consulting EcoChange Ltd. has published a background report considering recycling of biowaste in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland. The report covers the current situation of biowaste recycling in these countries and comes up with improvement recommendations for biowaste recycling.
According to the report, these countries have quite similar problems when it comes to biowaste recycling, and the recycling rates are relatively low in these countries – so there is still a lot to do, especially when EU Waste Framework Directives demand for better recycling of waste. The report offers economical, legislative and educational means. These include, for example punishing collection of mixed waste with higher fees and education about the benefits of biowaste collection.
The report has been published as a part of FinBaltRecycling project, coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment of Finland and financed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
The report is available in English:
